Retirement Announcement
(1-4-26) The Portland Fire Department would like to officially announce the retirement of Part-Time Firefighter Mike Aker after an extraordinary career of service.

Firefighter Aker was hired on March 1, 1973, and dedicated more than five decades to protecting the citizens of Portland and Jay County. Throughout his career, Mike exemplified professionalism, commitment, and a true servant’s heart. His experience, leadership, and steady presence have made a lasting impact on the department and on generations of firefighters who had the privilege to serve alongside him.
We are incredibly grateful for Firefighter Aker’s almost 53 years of service, sacrifice, and dedication to this community. His legacy will always remain a part of the Portland Fire Department.
