(1-2-26) The Jay County Sheriff’s Office has recently been made aware of a scam related to our Jail Division. The latest scam includes a person contacting the family of inmates and recent bookings into our facility. The Scammer will call the family and identify as a Ranking Official with the Sheriff’s Office or a Bonding Agent and state that they can pay the Bond online. THIS IS A SCAM!!


No Employee of the Jay County Sheriff’s Office or any other agency will contact anyone pertaining to an inmate’s Bond, and there is no online procedure to bond out an inmate.

If you receive a call similar to this, hang up and call the Sheriff’s Office to report this activity.
