(12-29-25) Mercer Health announces the retirement of Dr. Thangaraj Amaran, Vice President of Medical Affairs.


Dr. Amaran began his tenure at Mercer Health in July 1981 as a Board Certified Urologist, dedicating nearly four decades to patient care until January 2018. His clinical expertise was matched by his leadership, serving as Vice Chief of Staff (1983), Chief of Staff (1985, 1986, 1991), and Past Chief of Staff (1992). During this time he also contributed significantly through service on the Surgery Committee, Credentials Committee, and Bylaws Committee, shaping the standards and practices that strengthened Mercer Health.

Following his clinical career, Dr. Amaran assumed the role of Vice President of Medical Affairs in May 2018, a position he held through December 2025. In this role, he became a vital liaison between administration and medical staff, fostering collaboration, unity, and mutual support. His initiatives included the Medical Staff Education Series, which encouraged peer-to-peer learning and awareness of specialized services, and Community Health 101, an educational program addressing public health risks.

In recognition of his service, Dr. Amaran was nominated for the 2026 Ohio Hospital Association’s Albert E. Dyckes Health Care Worker of the Year Award, a testament to his character, leadership, and commitment to excellence.
