Portland Fire Department Press Release
(12-15-25) At approximately 5:26 p.m. Sunday evening, the Portland Fire Department was requested to assist the Bryant Volunteer Fire Department with a working structure fire in the 1000 block of West 400 North. Engine 43 and Tanker 45 responded, along with a total of 17 personnel.

Portland Fire Department units arrived first on scene and established command. Upon arrival, it was observed that the fire had significantly progressed throughout the structure. After confirming with the occupant that the residence was vacant, a defensive firefighting strategy was initiated.
Portland and Bryant Fire Departments were assisted by the Pennville Fire Department and Geneva Fire Departments. The fire was brought under control at approximately 6:36 p.m. and was declared extinguished at 8:25 p.m.
Portland Fire Department units returned to the station at 8:51 p.m. and were placed back into service at 9:50 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
Also we would like to give a shout out to Jay County EMS for standing by in these bitterly cold temperatures to ensure our safety, and for snagging some great pictures.
