Archbold, Ohio – On October 28th, the Northwest State Community College Van Wert Campus held its official ribbon cutting ceremony. The morning was chilly, but the air was filled with optimism and energy from NSCC employees, elected officials, and community leaders. Following a breakfast networking session, the crowd headed outside to the ribbon cutting station for remarks.

NSCC President Dr. Todd Hernandez took to the podium to recognize the accomplishment of a full-service campus in Van Wert, calling it a “pretty exciting day for Northwest State Community College.” Dr. Hernandez noted a 2019 conversation with Board of Trustee member Scott Mull, where the concern was raised about providing more localized access to Paulding, Van Wert and surrounding community learners. Dr. Hernandez proudly took on that challenge, and with a true team effort, the new full-service campus is now a reality. Hernandez concluded his remarks by inviting families to campus: “Now it’s your turn – send us your students. We’ll educate them, improve their lives, and strengthen this community.” Board of Trustee members Lisa McClure (Paulding County) and Scott Mull (Van Wert County) both provided passionate remarks about the new campus facility as well.

FROM THE STATE PERSPECTIVE

Rep. Roy Klopfenstein, Rep. Jim Hoops, and LuAnn Cook (representing the State Senate), all shared the state perspective. Each speaker spoke about the importance of higher ed opportunities for students of all ages. Klopfenstein and Cook presented official proclamations to Dr. Hernandez, marking the College’s significant accomplishment. Cook’s remarks also expanded to NSCC’s work with the region’s workforce training, noting that “with TechCred, Northwest State is by far the largest provider in Ohio.”
