(10-31-25) According to Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies…Billy Ray Kelly (44)of Columbus suffered serious injures after being electrocuted by power lines while trimming trees at 15343 Meranda Road in Anna this morning around 10 a.m.

Kelly and Jim Riley of Riley Construction were hired to clear trees by the property owner. Kelly was in the bucket of the boom lift truck they were using and thought the power line he came across was a tension/support line only. Riley told Kelly it was a live power line, and Kelly grabbed the line and was electrocuted and remained on the line for approximately 15 to 30 seconds.

Kelly’s right arm was detached from his body and he had multiple exit wounds from the electricity. He was transported by Anna EMS to Anna Park where CareFlight then flew him to Miami Valley Hospital.

It is unknown if Kelly had proper training to work around high-voltage lines.
