In Ohio, a fifth-degree felony theft by deception involves obtaining property or services through intentional deception, with the property valued between $1,000 and $7,500. Penalties can include a prison sentence of 6 to 12 months and a fine of up to $2,500. The specific charge depends on the value of the property or services, and factors like the use of deception are key to proving the “by deception” element of the crime.
