(8-28-25) According to GasBuddy analysts, there are a couple of reasons that gas prices jumped in price…one is a refinery in Whiting, Indiana that is unexpectedly down.
A recent flood at the facility caused a shutdown.

There second reason is something called price cycling.
There are times when gas stations sell gas at a low price and taking a small loss at the pumps, but still making money on items sold inside the convenience store.
When higher prices arrive on their next shipment of gas, they have to raise prices to avoid major losses.
