(8-14-25) On August 14, 2025 at approximately 10:13 am, Darke County Deputies along with Arcanum Rescue, and Arcanum Fire, responded to the intersection of SR 49 and the 49 East Alternate, in reference to a two-vehicle injury crash.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2025 white Ford Escape driven by Scott Emerick (49) of Dayton, OH traveling east on the 49 East Alternate failed to yield the right of way when crossing the intersection of SR 49. Emerick drove into the path of a 2004 Chevrolet 3500 truck driven by Caleb Schlechty (17) of Greenville, OH that was southbound on SR 49. Schlechty’s vehicle struck Emerick in the driver’s side door with both coming to rest off the roadway.

Emerick was transported to Wayne Memorial by Arcanum Rescue with minor injuries. Schlechty was treated at the scene.

This accident remains under investigation by The Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
