(8-13-25) A former St. Marys Police Officer, Lucas Wessel, is currently under investigation under charges of a LEADS (Law Enforcement Automated Database System) violation, with the Mercer County Sheriff ’s Office taking charge of the investigation, in order to prevent a conflict of interest. The investigation procedure started in February of this year. The case was assigned to a Mercer County Sheriff’s Detective who discovered some violations and the case was turned over to a Auglaize County Grand Jury in July who has filed four indictments. Wessel’s case has been filed in the Auglaize County Common Pleas Court.

Wessel recently resigned his position as a patrolman with the department. He had worked for the department since 2013, he resigned in late July. He had originally been placed on administrative leave before he turning in his resignation. He had been under investigation and and placed on administrative leave beforehand due to alleged workplace misconduct.
The investigation wasto find out whether or not the database was used by Wessel for something outside of law enforcement purposes.
