(8-6-25) In today’s Portland Commercial Review in the Felony Courts news.
The majority of the Jay (County, Indiana) Superior Court cases are from felony charges…found guilty or plea deal. Most receive suspended sentences and some are placed on home detention.
Plea deals include felony charges being dismissed.
This not just an Indiana situation…it is happening across the US.
Methaphenami – Felony, Level 6 –
He was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 180 days suspended and given two days credit for time served. He’s serving his sentence on home detention.
He was placed on probation for 185 days. As part of his plea agreement, the following charges were dismissed: a Level 6 felony for maintaining a common nuisance, a Class B misdemeanor for possession of marijuana and a Class B misdemeanor for possession of paraphernalia.
Felony, Level 6
He pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to the Level 6 felony. As part of his plea agreement, his charge was lessened to a Class A misdemeanor. A Class B misdemeanor for visiting a common nuisance was also dismissed.
He was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but eight days suspended and given eight days credit for time served.
Felony, Level 5 – Cocaine
Was sentenced to home detention for possession of cocaine.
He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years in Indiana Department of Corrections, with his sentence to be served on home detention.
As part of his plea agreement, the following charges were dismissed: Level 5 felony for possession of a narcotic drug, two Level 6 felonies for unlawful possession of a syringe and battery against a pub- lic safety official, and a Class A misdemeanor for resisting law enforcement.
Level 6 – domestic violence
She pleaded guilty to domestic battery, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced to 2.5 years in Jay County Jail with all but eight days suspended and placed on probation.
She was given credit for time served.
As part of her plea agreement, a Level 6 felony for residential entry was dismissed.
Class A misdemeanor -domestic battery
He was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 182 days suspended and given 156 days credit for time served.
He was placed on probation for 183 days. As part of his plea agreement, his charge was lessened from a Level 6 felony. resisting law enforcement
Level 6 – resisting law enforcement
He pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to the Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to one year in Jay County
Jail with all but two days suspended and given two days credit for time served. He was placed on probation for one year.
