(7-8-25) Last night at approximately 11:03 pm, the Portland Fire Department was dispatched to the 5900 block of North Street in Salamonia to assist Salamonia Volunteer Fire Department with a working detached garage fire.

PFD responded with 3 apparatus and 10 firefighters. Salamonia had an additional 3 apparatus and Southwest Mercer (Ft. Recovery) assisted with one additional apparatus.

Due to the compromised structure of the garage from fire damage, a defensive attack was ordered. The fire was marked under control at 11:46 pm and out around 12:35 am Portland Fire returned to station at 12:51 am and had all apparatus placed back into service at 1:39 am.

A quick response and great teamwork by all departments is credited to saving the home of the owner, which was only about 10 feet away from the garage. No injuries were noted during the incident and the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
