(6-18-25) Construct a roundabout at the intersection of State Route 118 and Wren-Landeck Road, approximately two miles south of the city of Van Wert.

Reasons for the project

Safety at the intersection of State Route 118 and Wren-Landeck Road remains a persistent concern despite previous mitigation efforts. The intersection experiences higher crash rates than expected versus other intersections that are similar in location, terrain, and traffic volume.  A 2025 study recommends a single-lane roundabout.

The draft feasibility study, available under the Project Documents tab, provides detailed crash data.

Previous efforts to improve safety

To address safety concerns at the intersection, ODOT has made previous improvements, including:

  • Improved sight-distance by purchasing additional right-of-way sight distance triangles on the east side of the intersection (2021)
  • Installed transverse rumble strips on the minor road approaches to alert drivers of the upcoming stop condition (2024)

Funding

ODOT District 1’s safety review team completed a review of the intersection and applied for safety funding. The project was awarded funding for construction in 2028 through Ohio’s Highway Safety Program (HSIP).
