Lily Armstrong, DeKalb High School (Waterloo, Ind.); Robert Cisek, Watkins Memorial High School (Pataskala, Ohio); and Kateri Sherman, Fort Loramie High School (Fort Loramie, Ohio), each were awarded $1,000. Armstrong has been accepted into Ball State University for interior design; Cisek plans to attend Virginia Tech for mechanical engineering; and Sherman has chosen to pursue a degree in integrated strategic communication at the University of Kentucky. CEO Eric Baltzell “Our aim is to help shape the next generation of leaders in the professional design industry. Supporting these students in their educational journey is one way we invest in the future, and we’re excited to see the impact they’ll make in the years ahead.” GM’s scholarship program was started in 2021 by the firm’s Game Changers committee, a volunteer group of team members who plan and perform philanthropic endeavors. Eligible students were those intending to pursue studies related to professional design services, such as architecture, mechanical or electrical engineering, landscape architecture, and interior design, as well as communication, marketing, and graphic design. Each year, the committee develops an application that challenges students to answer essay questions about their future career path and goals. The survey is sent to guidance counselors at high schools within the communities where GM has design and planning projects. |
