(6-11-25) Former Jay School Corporation teacher Joel R. Bowers (38) of Portland pleaded guilty Monday to a Level 6 felony, dissemination of matter that is harmful to minors.
Bowers admitted he knowingly or intentionally sent a picture of his genitalia through a messaging platform to a minor on or about April 9, 2024.
Part of a plea agreement, a Level 6 felony for a performance before a minor that is harmful to minors was dismissed.
Bowers was sentenced to 545 days in Jay County Jail, with all but 44 days of his sentence to be served on probation.
After being placed on administrative leave as a social studies teacher from Jay County Junior-Senior High School in April… later resigned.

Bowers in the past served as the chairman of the Democratic Party in Jay County, he resigned shortly after allegations.
