Auburn, IN – The person shot in last night’s officer involved shooting in Auburn was identified as Kyle Leins (44) of Auburn. Preliminary information shows Leins was shot after allegedly presenting a gun and shooting at Auburn Police Officers. He is recovering from surgery at a local hospital.

The Auburn Police Officer involved is Noah Woollweever. He is on administrative leave for three days, as is Auburn Police Department policy. Any questions pertaining to Officer Woollweever can be directed to Chief Cory Heffelfinger at the Auburn Police Department.

At the conclusion of this investigation all information will be turned over to the Dekalb County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

This is an ongoing investigation and there is no other information to report at this time.

Auburn, IN – The Indiana State Police, at the request of the Auburn Police Department, are investigating an officer involved shooting, resulting in injuries to an Auburn man.

Preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police detectives revealed that this evening at 6:30pm a call came into DeKalb County dispatch of a male who entered a residence in the 300 block of W. 11thSt in Auburn and pointed a gun at a subject. Auburn Police Department responded to the location, and the man had fled the area. Auburn PD located the man a short time later near the residence. The male was armed and an exchange of gun fire ensued. The male suspect was shot and injured. As soon as it was safe to do so, Auburn Police Officers rendered first aid until medics arrived. He was then transported to a local hospital.

 No officers were injured during the incident. The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for Auburn Police Department.

This is an ongoing investigation by the Indiana State Police and more information will be released as soon as it is available.
