CELINA, Ohio (5-28-25) — Mercer County Special Olympics will host the 5th Annual Power in the Park Push/Pull Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, Mat 31st at the amphitheater on Lakeshore Drive in Celina. Weigh-ins begin at 9:00am and lifting will begin at 10:00am. The event will feature Special Olympic athletes from across western Ohio.
Seven counties will be participating in the Power in the Park, including: Mercer, Champaign, Darke, Hancock, Henry, Madison, and Miami.
“We are very excited to welcome athletes and coaches from seven counties this year,” said Samantha Fledderjohann, Mercer County Special Olympics Coordinator. “Powerlifting has grown significantly in our program over the years, and this meet provides a competitive but supportive environment where athletes can showcase the hard work they’ve put in all season.”
The lakeside setting has become a popular and scenic location for the meet. The event is free and open to the public. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and sunscreen.
Powerlifting is one of eight sports currently offered through Mercer County Special Olympics, which also includes: basketball, volleyball, bowling, cheerleading, unified golf, flag football, and equestrian. More than 90 athletes participate across these programs for Mercer County.
All Special Olympics programming is free to athletes and made possible through community support, fundraising, and donations. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities, helping them develop physical fitness, build friendships, and gain confidence through athletic achievement.
