Pastor Rick Brosher

(5-14-25) Pastor Rick Brosher started Hand-Up Village to provide shelter for Mercer County’s homeless. Since its founding in 2015, the Village has grown from one cabin to twelve, housing from fifteen to twenty residents. Residents can stay for up to six months. By providing the basic necessity of housing, the Village gives residents a chance to make a fresh start. While there, residents must meet these requirements: find a job, attend the church of their choice, save fifty percent of their pay in a Hand-Up savings account. The goal is for residents to save at least $3,000 during their stay so that they can clear up bills, buy a basic car, and find a place to live. In addition to housing, the organization provides personal mentoring and financial training. They also help residents connect with social services appropriate to their needs. During recent board meetings, the Celina Kiwanis voted to donate $900 to a variety of local charities. They also awarded four $1000 scholarships to Celina High School students. Members are currently selling tickets for their annual chicken dinner which take place on Friday, June 13th.

The club discussed other upcoming events: the food stand at the Lake Festival and the children’s contests the club will sponsor at the county fair. For several years the Celina Kiwanis have sponsored the Mr. Potato Head contest on Kids’ Day. This year they will also sponsor the Speed Puzzle Contest.
