March 2025 Ranking of Ohio County Unemployment Rates

Among the state’s 88 counties, preliminary March 2025 unemployment rates ranged from a low of 3.6% in Medina County to a high of 8.5% in Ottawa County. From February, unemployment rates increased in 8 counties, decreased in 64 counties, and did not change in 16 counties. The comparable March unemployment rate for Ohio was 5.1%.
Five counties had unemployment rates below 4.0% in March. The counties with the lowest rates, other than Medina, were: Geauga at 3.8% and Holmes, Mercer and Union all at 3.9%.
Next door neighbors in Indiana, Jay County and Adams County, each had an unemployment rate of 3.2% in March, which for Jay County was down 0.9 percentage points from February and was down 0.6 percentage points from March 2024. Adams County: was down one percentage point from February.
Four counties had unemployment rates above 8.0% in March. The counties with the highest rates, other than Ottawa, were: Meigs, 8.4%; Noble, 8.2%; and Monroe, 8.1%.
The U.S. unemployment rate for March 2025 was 4.2%, up from 4.1% in February 2025 and up from 3.9% in March 2024.
In March 2025, the labor force participation rate in Ohio was 62.6%, up from 62.5% in February 2025 and up from 62.2% in March 2024. During the same period, the national labor force participation rate was 62.5%, up from 62.4% in February 2025 and down from 62.7% in March 2024
