MONROE, Ind. (3-11-25)Adams Central Community Schools Superintendent Joel Mahaffey will retain his position following his being charged with misdemeanor operating while intoxicated earlier this month.

In a five to two vote, the Adams Central Community School Board decided to Mahaffey to remain in his role for the district.

Voting against retaining Mahaffey were Board President Heather Frank and Vice President Shelly Gerber.

The remaining board members voted in favor of retaining him:

  • Mike Brown
  • Rhonda Isch
  • Ben Liechty
  • Jeremi Schortgen
  • Doug Schultz

Addressing the board and showing support for the Superintendent was Adams County Sheriff Daniel Mawhorr –

“Yes, mistakes were made – no doubt about that. That doesn’t change who he is, what he has done and what he will continue to do in this community.”

During his report to the board Mahaffey said –

“Looking at your faces, I can see the disappointment. Looking at the mirror every morning, I can see the disappointment as well.

I want people to learn from this. I want to become better, I want to do better and I want to help other people realize decisions they make can have some very serious consequences like this one.
