(2-10-25) COLUMBUS, Ohio —Ohio Republican Gov. Mike DeWine announced today that he has nominated former Ohio State and Youngstown State football coach Jim Tressel as his lieutenant governor.
The nomination will need to be confirmed by the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives.
Tressel served as president of Youngstown State University from 2014 to 2023. Before that, Tressel was the head football coach of the Youngstown State Penguins and later the Ohio State Buckeyes.
DeWine said-
“He has the requisite skill sets and has the criteria that I outlined. I trust his judgement. He’s a born leader.
This is a pick that I felt was very important, as I said, we want someone who can take over if something happens to me, but I also want someone every single day who is working and can come up with ideas and this is a guy with ideas.”
