(1-8-25) Columbus, OH —  It’s 2025, and in politics, there are no off years. We already know that this year, Republicans won’t take any time off from screwing over Ohioans. That’s why today we’re taking a look at our least favorite Ohio Republican’s  New Year’s Resolutions. They all have one thing in common– they are completely out of touch with Ohioans.

Secretary of State Frank (Loser) LaRose: New year, same tricks! This year, we can expect to see LaRose continue to force Ohioans to jump through hoops to cast a ballot, and likely even come up with new barriers to voting. But there’s one New Year’s resolution that we know LaRose can’t fulfill: his hope for no embarrassing political losses in 2025.

Attorney General Dave Yost: This year, AG Yost made two major resolutions. The first is to clear the 2026 gubernatorial primary field, all while continuing to ingratiate himself with Donald Trump and the most extreme Republicans possible.

Of course, when he must show up at the job he has right now, he’ll tirelessly work to fulfill his other resolution of politicizing the AG’s office instead of working for the people of Ohio. He’s hoping voters will forget his office negotiatedsweetheart deals directly with the utility company that created our state’s biggest scandal and caused energy prices to skyrocket for Ohio’s working families.

Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted: Husted’s goal for this year is simple: save his own skin. Whether it’s salvaging his run for governor by caving to extremists in his party or getting a free pass to the Senate from DeWine, Husted will do whatever is necessary to get his next job. Not in the picture? What Ohioans actually want.

Of course, Husted wouldn’t mind if this was the year we forgot about his role in the largest corruption scandal in our state’s history. But Ohio Democrats won’t let that resolution come true.

Governor Mike DeWine: DeWine’s resolution counts for this year and next. He wants to finish his term without the extreme agenda he’s signed off on clouding the folksy image he’s desperately tried to project. But there’s one goal for 2025 that he might check off right away: promoting his lieutenant governor to the United States Senate.

Regardless of the goal, Ohio Republicans all have one resolution in common, going to bat for special interests while Ohio’s working families are left behind. Ohio Democrats will hold Republicans accountable at all levels of government to ensure that this won’t be the year for these resolutions to come true.
