PIQUA (12-18-24) – The Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle fatal traffic crash. The crash occurred on December 17, at approximately 8:17 p.m. on River Road near Vandemark Road in Orange Township, Shelby County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2021 Kia Sorento, operated by David Kessler II (44) Sidney, was traveling southbound on River Road when it failed to negotiate a curve and lost control. The vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway before crossing back over River Road and driving off the left side of the roadway, striking a tree.

As a result of the crash, Kessler and his passenger, Brandi Kessler (34) were transported to Wilson Health by Sidney EMS. Brandi Kessler was then transported by Careflight to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries. David Kessler II succumbed to fatal injuries at the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers from the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol were assisted on scene by Sidney Fire & EMS, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and Elmer’s Towing.
