Columbus, OH (12-13-24) — In case you missed it, last Tuesday Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost appealed a ruling affirming that Ohio’s six-week abortion ban was unconstitutional. While he isn’t challenging the six-week ban directly, he argues that some parts of the ban may be unconstitutional.
It’s a disappointing but not entirely surprising step from Yost, who said just weeks after Ohioans overwhelmingly enshrined abortion rights in the state constitution that some parts of the ban may be unconstitutional. Ohioans deserve more from their attorney general, not to mention someone who has made his gubernatorial ambitions the worst kept secret in Ohio.
“Yost is making it clear that he’ll say or do anything to get a leg up in the gubernatorial primary- even at the expense of Ohio voters,” said Ohio Democratic Party spokeswoman Katie Seewer. “Voters overwhelmingly said we won’t go back to the extreme, six-week ban that he pushed, but instead of listening, Yost is choosing primary politics over the citizens he was elected to serve.

The referendum to legalize abortion in Ohio may have passed, but I do not believe it is because Ohioans want abortion legalized up to the point of birth. It passed because it was a special election at a time when people are not thinking about elections. It passed because the 6 week period may have been too short of time for many people to accept. It also passed because too many conservative pro-life people DID NOT TURN OUT TO VOTE! Pathetic! I am pro-life, but I tend to take the same stand on this as President Trump, that a compromise must be made to make it acceptable to the majority of the American people. Ohio can do better than this!!!
