Columbus, OH (12-25-24) — This November, Ohio Democrats gained two seats in the Ohio House of Representatives and two seats in the Ohio Senate. Ahead of a Republican-controlled legislature that will spend their time on extreme, out-of-touch policies that don’t work for Ohioans, Democrats will continue putting people first.

Representatives-Elect Erika White and Mark Sigrist flipped their Toledo and Columbus area seats blue because voters know that they put their communities first, not special interests. And after gaining these two seats, Republicans can no longer use the emergency clause to pass their extreme agenda.

Meanwhile, Senators-elect Willis Blackshear in Dayton and Beth Liston in Columbus flipped their state Senate seats blue. Voters know they will be a voice for Ohioans in the Senate, working to find real solutions to our state’s biggest challenges.

As Republicans race to the bottom with legislation that doesn’t work for Ohioans, we know that our newest Democratic legislators will play an important role in combatting extremism from the legislature, while focusing on issues that actually help Ohio’s working families.

Ohio Democratic Party spokeswoman Katie Seewer.

“Amid a tough year at the top of the ticket, Ohio Democrats made critical gains in the state legislature. It’s important to remember that these victories were no accident. Ohio Democrats organized across the state to show voters that Democrats are fighting for them in the state legislature, and it showed in the results.”
