Ft. Wayne– Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter recently announced the promotion of Sergeant Brian Walker to the rank of First Sergeant, where he will serve as the Assistant District Commander of the Indiana State Police Ft. Wayne Post. F/Sgt. Walker received this promotion through a competitive testing and interview process.

F/Sgt. Walker is a Ft. Wayne native, graduating from Heritage High School in 1989. After graduating from high school, F/Sgt. Walker attended Indiana University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1998.  F/Sgt. Walker also served his country in the United States Marine Corp before becoming an Adams County Deputy.

F/Sgt. Walker graduated from the 59th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy on June 25, 2000.  He was assigned to the Ft. Wayne post where he patrolled in both Adams and Wells Counties.

In 2001, he was certified as an Underwater Search & Rescue Diver and served with the ISP Underwater Search and Rescue Team for four years. In 2005, he competed for and was selected to be a member of the ISP North Emergency Response Team where he served as a SWAT Operator for eight years.  He was then promoted to the rank of Sergeant, where he served as SWAT Team Leader for approximately four years.

In 2017, Walker transferred back to the Ft. Wayne Post where he worked road patrol in Adams, Blackford, Jay, and Wells Counties. During this time he has also served as the Marijuana Eradication Coordinator for the Ft. Wayne Post.

In July of 2019, Walker was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he served as the Indiana State Police Ft. Wayne Post Public Information Officer.  F/Sgt. Walker has served as the Public Information Officer until this most recent promotion.

F/aa. Walker and his wife live in Adams County.  He also has three adult children.
