Anthony T. Myers

(11-14-24) The Portland Police Department has been conducting a lengthy investigation involving multiple auto thefts and burglaries throughout the city. Surveillance operations were carried out in areas where vehicles had been reported stolen. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Officers observed a stolen vehicle and attempted to stop and apprehend the driver, who briefly fled in the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Anthony T. Myers, 22, of Portland, attempted to flee on foot after the brief vehicle pursuit. After the brief foot pursuit, he was apprehended without further incident.

At the time of his arrest, Myers was armed with a stolen handgun. Further investigation revealed that Myers was also in possession of multiple items reported stolen from other burglaries and auto thefts within Portland and Jay County.

The Portland Police Department reminds everyone to lock their vehicles and avoid leaving valuable items inside. The Portland Police Department would like to thank all the Officers involved in the apprehension of the suspect.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Preliminary charges would include:

• Auto theft, 12 counts, level 5 felonies

• Theft of a firearm, 2 counts, level 5 felonies

• Burglary, 3 counts, level 5 felonies

• Obliterating identifying marks on a handgun, level 5 felony

• Resisting law enforcement, level 6 felony

• Possession of stolen property, A misdemeanor

• Possession of marijuana, B misdemeanor
