(11-9-24) The political status of a state in the U.S. and how it voted this time in the presidential election can show how a state might be referred to party wise. Illinois is a good example of this.
A majority of Americans that follow politics would say that Illinois is a ‘blue state’.
The greater Chicago area, like many metro cities, has been blue and it was again this year. Harris delivered the Democratic Party their ninth consecutive victory in Illinois and continued the trend of Democratic candidates performing m well in Cook County while also winning a few of the suburban communities.
But a look at how voting went in Illinois this past week, shows again that the majority of counties voted Republican. The population of Chicago easily outweighs the rest of the state.
How did Illinois vote in the 2024 presidential election?

This has led to an organization called New Illinois pursuing the formation of a new state, “separate from the current State of Illinois, Urban Cook County and Chicago,”

Voters last week in Iroquois County, Calhoun County, Clinton County, Green County, Jersey County, Madison County, and Perry County passed the measure, joining at least 21 other counties that have voted in favor of secession discussions in the 2020 and 2022 elections.
The ballot question read-
“Shall the board of (the county) correspond with the boards of other counties of Illinois, outside of Cook County, about the possibility of separating from Cook County to form a new state and to seek admission to the Union as such, subject to the approval of the people?”
The process was addressed by…
Democrat Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said in May-
“The idea that someplace in Illinois wants to kick out another place in Illinois should not be on the ballot, shouldn’t be something that’s part of the lexicon and discussion of politicians. We’re one state, supporting each other.’
Not just Illinois
Those on the west coast are proposing their own plans for a liberal place to call home —

Wanting to start a new state is nothing new, a large number of conservative Oregon residents have campaigned over recent years to be annexed to Idaho.
The odds against these groups are facing to make this happen are quite high. Main reason a new state would split the electoral votes created by the change.
