(11-7-24) The State of Ohio will have two first time U.S. Senators headed to Congress in January.

Bernie Moreno this past week beat incumbent Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown and JD Vance on January 20th Vance will be sworn in as the Vice-President an heading to the White House.

Ohio Republican Governor Mike DeWine will now appoint someone to the vacant senate seat by Vance’s departure.

According to an Axios article

Ramaswamy or Carey?

Names floated for the seat include Vivek Ramaswamy, the Upper Arlington entrepreneur who unsuccessfully ran for president, and Rep. Mike Carey of Columbus, a former coal lobbyist who was just re-elected to a second full term.

Other possibilities include/-

  • State Sen. Matt Dolan, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, Secretary of State Frank LaRose, Attorney General Dave Yost and former state GOP chair Jane Timken were other names suggested to Axios earlier this year.

Whoever DeWine appoints will have around two years in office before needing to run in a special election in 2026. That will be followed by another election in 2028 for a full six-year term.
