(10-30-24) Concerned citizens in St. Marys were present at Monday’s night’s City Council meeting about immigrants being housed in the community. A sale of a local church, Hillsdale United Brethern Church, to a Maui, Hawaii group who presently has three churches owned by them in Celina.

Celina and Mercer County were highlighted and used as an example of the situation, including comments that Haitians are now being brought in.
Citizens asked questions of council members of what steps are being taken to avoid situations that are taking place in Springfield, Lima, Findlay, Lockland, etc.
Below you can listen to the concerns at the meeting that took place.

OMG ! The fear and hatred must stop. Rumors of something that might happen in flaming prejudice based on the lies of the orange Jesus. What are you afraid of?

Total agreement that we need to have proper zoning laws to address this situation. With that said, we have had a housing shortage in this area for years so to blame an influx of “those folks” for a housing shortage is incorrect. Also to suggest that our laws do not apply to “them” just shows how far down the “rabbit hole” some have gone. Finally, employers are encouraging immigration as a solution to the workforce shortage. All of this just confirms we need a systemic solution to the immigration issue. “Building the wall” is such a lame and short sighted solution. “Wake up America.” — EP
