(10-26-24) For the first time in several months Mercer County does not have the lowest unemployment rate in Ohio jumping from 2.9% to 3.1% and tied with two other counties Wyandot and Lake counties.
Two counties, Medina and Geauga, both were lower at 3.0%
Stateline area unemployment rate—

- 3.4% – Auglaize County
- 3.5% – Van Wert County
- 3.8% – Darke County
- 4.0% – Shelby County
The highest unemployment rate was 6.2% in Monroe County.
Ohio’s unemployment rate was 4.5% in September 2024, unchanged from 4.5% in August. Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment increased 13,500 over the month, from a revised 5,662,100 in August to 5,675,600 in September.
The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in September was 263,000, unchanged from 263,000 in August. The number of unemployed has increased by 56,000 in the past 12 months from 207,000. The September unemployment rate for Ohio has increased 0.9 percentage points from 3.6% in September 2023.
The U.S. unemployment rate for September 2024 was 4.1%, down from 4.2% in August 2024 and up from 3.8% in
September 2023.
