(10-9-24) Two passengers were injured in Jay County after their horse and buggy went off CR 650 North and into a ditch.

Jacob M. Wengerd (20) of Bryant was driving the buggy with his two sisters Rebecca Wengerd (18) and Rachel Wengerd (15). Wengerd told Jay County Sheriff’s Deputies they were riding east on the road when they passed in front of a fenced-in pasture on the south side of the road with other horses in it.

Wengerd said his horse became spooked and dashed to the north side of the road and into a ditch.

Rachel Wengerd jumped out of the buggy before it went into the ditch and Rebecca Wengerd was thrown from the buggy. Rachel Wengerd complained of wrist pain and Rebecca Wengerd complained of pain in her neck, right leg and left side of her face.

Jacob Wengerd was administered a blood alcohol and drug test with results pending.
