Grand Lake Rehab and the Parkinson’s Support Group will be hosting a free community event on Tuesday, October 1 at 6:00 pm at the St. Marys Memorial High School Auditorium, 2250 State Route 66, St. Marys.

This event features inspirational and motivational speaker John Baumann.  Mr. Baumann was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at 41, left his corporate law job and focused on his health, slowing the disease process and being a point of inspiration and motivation for others who are facing challenging times.

Parkinson’s Disease effects on the central nervous system are both chronic and progressive over time.  By the time Parkinson’s Disease is diagnosed the patient has progressed to the point where people have difficulty controlling their body movements due to the tremors, bradykinesia, slowness of movements and reflexes, and body stiffness.

John will share his experiences of living with the disease and how he has fought to overcome the challenges and “get back up“.  There will also be a panel featuring patients and caregivers, as they tell their experiences and answer audience questions.  The evening will include a community vendor fair offering tips, tricks and resources for all members of the community for assistance.

The event is free, by the support of a community grant received from the Parkinson’s Foundation and is open to the public.  Doors will open at 5:00 pm with the vendor fair and John Baumann will begin at 6:00 pm.  Everyone is invited, if you are walking the journey of Parkinson’s disease yourself or with a loved one or facing a challenge in life and need some encouragement and motivation to “get back up”, this is for you.  For more information call 419-394-3387 ext. 3567 or email jujacobs@jtdmh.org.
