(9-24-24) David L. Hudson (64) of Portland died Friday after his tractor flipped on him at the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association grounds.
The Portland Police Department received a call from Hudson’s sister, Patricia, around 11:51 p.m. Friday and explained that she hadn’t heard from her brother since 7:30 a.m. Friday.
Police found Hudson’s body pinned under his 2005 John Deere tractor in a ditch on the west side of the grounds.
According to Jay County coroner Michael Brewster Hudson sustained blunt force trauma to the head, killing him instantly, He was pronounced dead at the scene.

David Hudson, age 64, a resident of rural Portland, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024 following an accident in Portland.
David was born January 16, 1960, in Decatur, Indiana, the son of Warren and Virginia (Morehous) Hudson. He graduated from Jay County High School in 1978. David worked at Maitlen Motors in Portland, Joyce Dayton in Portland, Aumann Auctions in Nakomis, Illinois and has worked for the past 20 years as grounds keeper for Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association where he was a member.

2 sisters: Patricia Hudson – Portland, Indiana and Sheryl Hudson – Portland, Indiana
Several cousins
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Pastor Joe Hines will officiate and burial will follow at Salamonia Cemetery in Salamonia, Indiana.
Memorials may be directed towards Jay County Historical Society.
