(9-17-24) Yesterday at 11:15 pm Van Wert County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an area of U.S. Route 33 in Willshire for a vehicle being stopped in the roadway with the driver not acting appropriate.

Ohio City EMS responded to check the subject’s medical condition. Joshua Dean Pennell (38) of Willshire was arrested for OVI Refusal, Rules for Driving in Marked Lanes and Parking on Highway.

What Is The “Con” Of Refusing To Blow?

In Ohio…There are a couple of downsides if you were to choose not to participate in the breathalyzer test. The main one being a loss of your driver’s license for one year and a $475 reinstatement fee. This is longer than if you were to fail the test where a driver’s license would be suspended for 90 days. Though it is not a crime to refuse to blow, this is called an administrative license suspension.

Pennell was issued citations with a summons for an upcoming court appearance.
