Shooting at reunion near Shaw High School sends multiple victims to hospital
(9-2-24) East Cleveland Police are investigating a shooting on Euclid Ave. that sent multiple people to the hospital. The shooting took place around 2 a.m. Monday morning during a Shaw High School reunion.
All victims were transported to University Hospitals for treatment. The number of victims and the condition of their injuries is unknown at this time.
Acting East Cleveland Police Chief Kenneth Lundy told Fox 8 News—
“We had the first shooting around 1 a.m. at Euclid Avenue and Collamer was crowded with hundreds of people we couldn’t even get down the street with our emergency vehicles. We literally parked our cars and had to run there to get the victim. We picked him up and rushed him to the ambulance.”
Shortly after that he was back in his vehicle when he heard about 30 rounds of gunfire.
“It had me shaking, it was so close to our vehicles. I jumped out of my truck and a female ran up to me and said she was shot. The streets were packed so I knew it would take too long to get EMS there so I had her get in the back of my truck and we took her straight to the hospital.”
East Cleveland City Council President Twon Billings said the Shaw High School Reunion is a weekend-long event that brings together graduates and community members of all ages.
“You have to have a presence out here. When you got thousands of people traveling through the city and there’s no enforcement here. We only got a few officers. We had to rely on mutual aid, which you see Cleveland Heights, University Heights and various of different ambulances and fire departments. It’s a tragic shame all the people that were shot. Hopefully, the God that, you know, these people make it.”
It is not the first time a shooting has taken place at Shaw High School during recent reunions.
In September of 202 10 individuals were shot and 1 was killed.
