(8-13-24) The Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash west of Decatur shortly before 2 p.m. yesterday, The initial investigation revealed that Wendell Hartman (89) of Decatur was driving an SUV on County Road 200 West and didn’t stop at the intersection with County Road 500 North.

Hartman, drove through the stop sign and t-boned into a car driven by Arsalie Morgan (18) on CR 500, which did not have a stop sign.

The impact of the crash caused a chain reaction that sent the car off the road and into a yard, where it hit a tree and two parked cars in a driveway. One of the parked cars was pushed into a house, causing more damage.

Two 18-year-olds were in the car, and the driver was taken to a hospital for minor injuries.

Hartman had severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The crash is under investigation by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
