(8-12-24) An Adams County crash that took place on Sunday night at around 9 pm involving a car and a horse-drawn buggy. Three passengers were thrown from the buggy, including a toddler and an infant.

Shanelle Bayes (32) of Decatur was traveling eastbound in a passenger vehicle on S.R. 124 near C.R. 200 East on Sunday at 9:08 p.m.

Joe Schwartz (30) of Monroe was also going eastbound on S.R. 124 in a horse-drawn buggy.

Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies say Bayes failed to observe the horse-drawn buggy and rear-ended it. The collision ejected all three passengers, a 24-year-old, 2-year-old and 10-month-old, from the buggy.

Schwartz was airlifted by Lutheran Air in life-threatening condition and the other three passengers were transported to a Fort Wayne hospital by Adams County EMS.
