Following Vice President Kamala Harris’s announcement that she has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential candidate, Ohio Democratic Party Chair Elizabeth Walters released the following statement:

“Governor Walz is a proven fighter for working families who has spent his time in office cementing Minnesota as a state that leads in abortion rights, workers rights, and so much more. I’m looking forward to seeing him represent Midwest Democrats as he hits the campaign trail with Vice President Harris. He knows what it’s like to set a bold vision for the future and deliver on those promises. The contrast in this race is clear between Governor Walz and JD Vance, whose vision of the future only includes himself.”

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison

A former educator, Walz, who is a 60 year old white male, is currently in his second term as Minnesota governor and chairs the Democratic Governors Association. He previously served 12 years in Congress, representing a conservative-leaning rural district that, both before and after his tenure, has been mostly dominated by Republicans.

Walz had been an outspoken defender of Joe Biden following his disastrous debate performance as calls for the president to end his reelection bid escalated. When Biden did drop out, Walz endorsed Harris the next day.
