(8-5-24) Indiana State Police Pendleton Post are looking for Matthew E. Waters (44) of Muncie who led law enforcement in a pursuit around Jay County last week.

The pursuit of Waters started near the intersection of CR 100 East and 100 North about 11:26 a.m. July 30, traveling through the county before passing through several streets in Dunkirk…. then on to Indiana 167.
A crash resulted during the pursuit. Jay County Sheriff’s Office captain Patrick Wells, Portland Police officer Brandon McDavid and Jay County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Tony Lennartz were following Waters in his 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche.
The vehicles driven by Wells and McDavid are registered to Jay County Commissioners and Portland Police Department, both were towed from the scene and damage is estimated at more than $100,000.
Today warrants for Waters’ arrest were issued but had not yet located him. Preliminarily charges are two Level 5 felonies for resisting law enforcement with a prior conviction and battery by means of a deadly weapon, as well as a Level 6 felony for criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon.
Waters was just booked into the jail on 6/18/2024 2:30 AM by the Pendleton Police on the following charges:
- Operating With Controlled Substance In Body
- Possession Paraphernalia
