(7-25-24) Two sex offenders, one in Mercer County was sentenced and put on probation with a suspended sentence and one in Auglaize County who is being held on a 3rd degree felony charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Timothy Schroer and Shawn Steinke

Shawn Steinke (49) of Celina has been placed on 5 years of probation and will register as a sex offender for 25 years for stalking and watching children at bus stops in the local area. Steinke was sentenced in Mercer County Common Pleas Court on a 4th degree felony charge of menacing by stalking, received a 180 days suspended jail sentence and was instructed to undergo a sex offender treatment program.

A plea deal was reached on May 13th on the charges.

Steinke was originally arrested in December, 2023 for watching children during November in the Celina area. Steinke would violate terms of his bond after the incident when he was seen watching and talking to children at bus stops in Fort Recovery.

Timothy Schroer (47) of Wapakoneta is being held in the Auglaize County Jail on a $175,000 (10%) bond on a 3rd degree felony charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. The alleged incident occurred on April 15th.

07/22/2024 Auglaize County Common Pleas JOURNAL ENTRY ORDERS ON TESTING OF DEFENDANT FILED. THE DEFENDANT HEREIN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH A VIOLATION OF EITHER 2907.02, 2907.03, 2907.04, 2907.24 OR 2907.25 OF THE OHIO REVISED CODE. THEREFORE, THE COURT HEREBY ORDERS THAT THE DEFENDANT BE EXAMINED BY A PHYSICIAN TO DETERMINE IF THE ACCUSED IS SUFFERING FROM A VENEREAL DISEASE, INCLUDING AT LEAST THE FOLLOWING: SYPHILIS, GONORRHEA, HEPATITIS B & C, CHLAMYDIAL INFECTIONS. AND (IF INDICATED), HERPES COMPLEX AND GENITAL WARTS. IF IT IS FOUND THAT THE ACCUSED IS SUFFERING FROM ANY VENEREAL DISEASE, IT IS FURTHER ORDERED THAT THE DEFENDANT UNDERGO TREATMENT FOR THAT DISEASE. IF THE DEFENDANT HEREIN IS CHARGE WITH A VIOLATION OF 2907.02, 2907.03 OR 2907.04 OF THE OHIO REVISED CODE, THE DEFENDANT IS HEREBY ORDERED TO BE EXAMINED BY PHYSICIAN WHO SHALL PERFORM OR ORDER THE PERFORMANCE OF ONE OR MORE TESTS DESIGNATED BY THE DIRECTOR OF HEALTH, UNDER 3701.241 OF THE REVISED CODE, TO DETERMINE IF THE DEFENDANT IS A CARRIER OF A VIRUS THAT CAUSES ACQUIRED IMMUNE DEFICIENCY SYNDROME. THE DEFENDANT SHALL REPORT TO THE COURT THE NAME OF THE PHYSICIAN CONDUCTING THE TEST OR TESTS WITHIN TEN (10) DAYS OF THIS JOURNAL ENTRY, AND SHALL CAUSE THE PHYSICIAN TO REPORT THE RESULTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH OHIO REVISED CODE 2907.27. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED THAT RESULTS OF THIS TEST SHALL BE COMMUNICATED IN CONFIDENCE TO THE COURT BY THE PHYSICIAN(S). FURTHER, PURSUANT TO OHIO REVISED CODE 2907.28(B), COSTS OF THESE TEST ARE ASSESSED AGAINST THE DEFENDANT UNLESS THE DEFENDANT PROVES TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE COURT THAT HE IS NOT ABLE TO PAY FOR SAID TESTING.

Schroer is due to appear in Auglaize County Common Pleas Court on Monday July 29th 10:30 am for a pre-trial hearing.
