Columbus, OH (7-19-24) — Monday, Ohio Democratic Party Chair Elizabeth Walters joined MSNBC to discuss the JD Vance that Ohioans know through his short career in politics, slamming him as a “ruthlessly ambitious politician” who “spent most of his 18 months in office auditioning for this job” rather than serving his constituents.

Walter’s said-

“I think that Ohioans have learned what the rest of the country will learn [..] that he is a political shapeshifter and he will lie about his record, lie about his past and lie about the things he believes in.”

Meanwhile, the Ohioans he pledged to help when he ran for Senate are still waiting for him to fulfill his promises to them. As he hits the campaign trail with Donald Trump, it’s clear they’ll be waiting a while longer.

On his support for a national abortion ban and dangerous views on women:

Whether it was telling women they should stay in a violent marriage for the sake of their children or how he referenced the victory for abortion rights in Ohio in November of last year as a “gut punch”. He has been unabashedly anti abortion and unabashedly anti-women the entire time he has been involved in politics here in Ohioand Ohio voters have sent a strong message not only to him but any politician looking for our votes: that we support abortion rights.”

On Vance’s political “evolution”:

“He is a ruthlessly ambitious politician who will say and do whatever he has to get ahead and it’s what we saw all through 2022. Frankly, his record so far leaves us very little to go on and for most of the 18 months he has been in office he has been auditioning for this job.

On Vance’s broken promises to Ohioans:

“He is very famous for this book about Appalachia and in Appalachian Ohio, they still are waiting for him to be their advocate, to do any of the things he promised to make their lives better. He has done more for Silicon Valley than he has for people there. Whether it is the erasure of his Never Trump background or now how he is trying to reshape his stance on abortion, he isn’t honest and he will remake himself into what is convenient or politically expedient to service ambition.”
