Union City – On July 4, 2024, the Union City Police Department responded to a 911 call from a 17-year-old juvenile female at Harter Park. The juvenile, reported as a runaway/missing person from Darke County, Ohio, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, sought assistance from law enforcement.

Upon arrival at Harter Park, officers located the juvenile and an adult male, later identified as Jamey Deeter. The juvenile explained that Deeter had picked her up on July 2, 2024, in Darke County, Ohio, and brought her to Union City, Indiana, where he left her at Harter Park. The juvenile confirmed that Deeter was aware she was reported as a runaway/missing person and knew law enforcement was searching for her. Despite this, he agreed to drop her off at the park.
Deeter was placed under arrest. During the arrest, Deeter experienced a handcuff-induced anxiety attack and was transported to St. Vincent Randolph Emergency Department for evaluation. After being released from the hospital, Deeter was transported to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Jail and placed into custody. The female juvenile was taken back placed in a safe situation in Darke County, Ohio.
