(6-2-24) Rockford, Ohio’s 21st Century Club held their 100th birthday party on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 with a delicious tea party featuring all homemade scones, lemon curd, jams, cucumber sandwiches, fruit tarts, chicken pinwheels, hot chicken salad, macarons, petit fours and tea. Organized with a constitution and bylaws, the 20th Century Club was founded in 1823 by nine women in Shane’s Crossing. Founded as a musical and literary civic club, the members today hold true to those values today with learning new topics monthly and entertaining as well as donating to community efforts. The party, held at the Rockford United Methodist Church social room, was attended by present and past members who thoroughly enjoyed the company of old friends and sharing all things “club” including the past yearly booklets. A Proclamation from Mayor Ron Searight of the Village of Rockford honoring the oldest club in Mercer County was read and cherished.
