“Building for God’s People by God’s People” is the mission statement of the St. John Builders. This ministry of St John Lutheran Church helps those in need by building low cost housing and maintaining existing homes. At a recent Celina Kiwanis meeting, Robert Chaney, creator of the ministry and long time project coordinator, described the group’s work. This includes activities ranging from building affordable starter homes for young couples to installing wheelchair ramps. The group has also worked on the construction of the the Cornerstone Chapel at the fairgrounds and housing at Hand Up Village.
During the business portion of the meeting, the members awarded four $1000 scholarships to Celina seniors. Members will sell tickets through May for the club’s annual chicken dinner. Tickets were passed out to members in attendance. The meal pick up will be Friday, June 14.
