(4-28-24) Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies pulled a suspected drunk driver from a submerged pickup truck after they say he drove it into a pond.

Deputies say they responded to a water rescue call at 3:57 a.m. on County Road 500 N, just east of County Road 400 W.

When they arrived they found a Ford F-150 sinking in a pond. A corporal and deputy swam out to the truck and freed the driver.

The corporal was treated at the hospital for cold weather injuries and later released.

Investigators say Fred Velez (55) was leaving a private drive north of County Road 500 when he drove into a ditch, crossed a grassy area, and then ended up sinking in the pond.

Velez, who was not hurt, but was charged with Operating While Intoxicated and taken to the Adams County Detention Center.
