(4-21-24) On Saturday evening just before 6:00 P.M. Ashley-Hudson Indiana police officers responded to a residence on W Garfield St after overhearing Ashley-Hudson Fire Rescue being dispatched for a female who’s leg was reportedly cut in half.

Officers arrived on the scene and found a 7 year old female being tended to by family members and bystanders. It was discovered the juvenile had run behind and gotten run over by a riding lawn mower, the operator began to back up not knowing she was behind it.
A makeshift tourniquet had already been applied by her uncle, slowing the blood loss until an actual tourniquet was applied by responding officers. There was a complete amputation near her ankle.
The victim was then flown to a Fort Wayne hospital. As of Sunday morning she has undergone several surgeries and is recovering well.
Please remember that all power equipment is inherently dangerous and serious injuries can occur without warning. Due to the quick thinking family members the patient never lost consciousness and was calm throughout the entire incident.
