This update from Randolph County clarifies that no deaths took place from the tornado. It also reflects the number of injuries.

False information about injuries and deaths from yesterday’s tornado event has been posted on several social media sites. Here is the proper information related to the tornado:
~ Randolph County Declaration of Emergency signed at approximately 12:15 AM
~ Indiana Urban Search and Rescue Team (IN-Task Force 1) requested to assist local first responders with searching structures
~ No Deaths Reported in Randolph County
~38 Injuries (12 transported to neighboring hospitals)
~ As of 3:30 AM, 4,756 customers are without power
~ Most mutual aid law enforcement, fire, and EMS equipment has been released
~ After daybreak, officials will be conducting a thorough damage assessment.
~ Zero individuals reported missing as of 3:30 AM.
~ Public information will be released to the media through Randolph County’s unified command structure as warranted. The next briefing is expected to be at 0930.
~ Randolph E-911, Randolph County, Indiana Sheriff’s Department, and Randolph County, Indiana HSEM will post official information as needed.
(3-14-24) At least three people were killed after a tornado touched down near mobile homes in Winchester, Indiana.

Indiana State Police confirmed that shortly after 9 p.m. that three people had died after a tornado tore through various mobile homes located near Ascension St. Vincent Randolph Hospital.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office has since asked residents to avoid the town of Winchester due to heavy storm damage.
According to the National Weather Service a “large and extremely dangerous” tornado was initally observed traveling west over the town of Union City, located around 11 miles northwest of Greenville and traveling at 40 mph.
Indiana Michigan Power has reported that more than 4,000 residents east of Muncie including Winchester and Selma are currently without power.
