(3-4-24) Two Mercer County men were in Common Pleas Court, Michael G. Schmidt was sentenced to 20 years in prison, while Shawn Steinke had his bond revoked for stalking children.

Michael G. Schmidt (57) Mendon was sentenced to 20 years in prison and will be required to register his address for life as a Tier 3 sex offender after he was convicted for sex crimes involving a 5 year old child. The sentence came after an agreement with Mercer County prosecutors where Schmidt pleaded guilty to four 3rd degree felony charges of Gross Sexual Imposition.

The incidents happened between January and May of 2021.

Shawn Steinke (49) of Celina recently had his bond revoked. Steinke had been free on bond after being charged with stalking and watching children on November 29th, 2023 (was released on December 5th) at Celina City Schools bus stops,

Steinke was charged with Contempt of Court, a 4th degree felony due to the incident.

Steinke was returned to the Mercer County Adult Detention Center after being seen within 1,000 feet of Ft. Recovery Schools and several Ft. Recovery school bus stops.

The State submitted a police report from the Ft. Recovery Police Department on the incident. The Mercer County Common Pleas Court assigned the Pretrial that will happen on March 13, 2024 at 1:30 p.m and ordered the Defendant to appear with counsel at that time.
