(2-22-24) Today in the Portland Commercial Review story…a public official in Jay County is the subject of an Indiana State Police investigation.

ISP confirmed to C-R that it is investigating a complaint against a public official in the county regarding “identity deception related activity”.

a person who, with intent to harm or defraud another person, knowingly or intentionally obtains, possesses, transfers, or uses identifying information to profess to be another person, commits identity deception, a Level 6 felony

Jay County prosecutor Wes Schemenaur told C-R that the investigation of a county employee stemmed from a resident’s complaint that was brought to the Jay County Sheriff’s Office. It then went through his office and a state police investigation was requested.

No other details have been released at this time.
